Entrance: On the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain, St. Tammany has easy access to New Orleans via the Causeway or the I-10 twin span. Interstates 12, 10, 55 and 59, U.S. Hwy. 190, and a vast array of state highways.

"The White House Millennium Council chose The Tammany Trace as one of 50 Millennium Legacy Trails."
Directions: The trail makes its way through five communities along the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain across from New Orleans in St. Tammany Parish: Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, Lacombe, and Slidell. When you encounter the Green Caboose, you have reached the Tammany Trace Trailhead. You can refresh yourself and learn more about St. Tammany. The caboose serves as the information and souvenir center and ranger office for The Trace. Parking, rest rooms, water fountains, a playground, pavilion and picnic tables are located here.
